Owners of Montelle Winery and Augusta wineriesCongratulations to Montelle Winery as they receive Missouri’s second annual C.V. Riley Award for the state’s best Norton! On April 5th, Tony and Cindy Kooyumjian, owners of Montelle Winery, accepted the award from Director Hagler and Missouri Wine and Grape Board Executive Director Jim Anderson. Montelle Winery’s Norton was selected to receive the award during Missouri’s 2012 Governor’s Cup wine competition.

The award was established by the Missouri Wine and Grape Board in 2011 to honor C.V. Riley, Missouri’s first state-appointed entomologist. Riley is credited for salvaging the French wine industry with his Phylloxera resistant rootstock in the late 1800s. This award also helps celebrate Missouri’s state grape, Norton, which is our favorite dry red wine from the Midwest. Check out our Norton wine reviews here.
