This week has been a busy news week when it comes to St. Louis craft beer. The St. Louis Post Dispatch had a great article on craft beer this past week, Craft or Crafty? Consumers deserve to know the truth. It was written by Charlie Papazian and Bob Pease of the Brewers Association, and Dan Kopman, CEO of Schlafly Beer in St. Louis. It discussed how many beers consumers think are craft brews, like Shock Top and Blue Moon, are actually brands built by one of the giants, A-B InBev or MillerCoors.

That was followed by a press release by the Brewers Association Craft vs. Crafty clarifying what makes a brewery “craft:” Their annual production is 6 million barrels of beer or less and no more than 25 percent of the craft brewery is owned or controlled by an alcoholic beverage industry member who is not themselves a craft brewer. Are you passionate about craft beer? Make sure your favorite beer is not on The Brewers Association PDF list of domestic non-craft breweries.
